Minority Threatens Vote Of Censure Against Okudzeto Ablakwa
The Minority in Parliament has called on Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa to resign over allegations surrounding the payment of support packages to Ghanaians evacuated from South Africa.3News graphic (27 October 2026); reports from MyJoyOnline and other outlets on the Minority’s press conference.
Speaking at a press conference on 27 October 2026, Ranking Member of the Foreign Affairs Committee Samuel Abdulai Jinapor said the minister’s handling of the exercise had brought his office into disrepute. He demanded that Ablakwa step down immediately to allow an impartial investigation.
“Given the gravity of these revelations and in order to ensure an impartial investigation into the matter, we call on the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Honourable Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, to resign immediately,” Jinapor stated.
He further urged President John Dramani Mahama to terminate Ablakwa’s appointment if the minister fails to resign voluntarily. “The President must demonstrate that the standards he has set for his appointees have consequences when public confidence in their stewardship has been seriously undermined,” he added.
The Minority is also demanding a comprehensive independent audit of the entire evacuation exercise by a reputable international accounting firm. The call follows reports that some individuals on the official list of 1,964 evacuees claimed they received less than the announced GH¢5,500 package.
Ablakwa has consistently maintained that every returnee, including children, received the full amount of GH¢5,000 for reintegration and GH¢500 for transport. He has pointed to payment records and challenged the accuracy of the shortfall claims.
The dispute continues to intensify political pressure on the minister and the government over accountabilityfor the GH¢49.72 million spent on the operation.
