Jinapor Reacts After SA Evacuees Accuse Minority of Coaching Them to Speak Against Government
Samuel Abdulai Jinapor, Member of Parliament for Damongo and Ranking Member of Parliamentâs Foreign Affairs Committee, has rejected allegations that the Minority attempted to influence Ghanaians evacuated from South Africa to make statements against the government.
Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, October 27, Mr Jinapor denied that the Minority had paid, persuaded or coached any of the returnees to criticise the governmentâs handling of the evacuation exercise and the associated financial support.
His response follows claims made by some evacuees at a press conference a day earlier that members of the opposition had attempted to coach them to make allegations against the government.
Mr Jinapor maintained that the Minority had no involvement in orchestrating the claims, insisting that some returnees had independently raised concerns about discrepancies between the amounts they were expected to receive and the sums allegedly paid to them.
The controversy has heightened scrutiny of the evacuation exercise, with the Minority questioning the accuracy and transparency of the financial records associated with the payments.
Among the issues highlighted are alleged duplicate entries, unsigned payment records, missing receipts and claims by some returnees that the amounts documented against their names differed from what they actually received.
Although Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has provided explanations regarding the payments, Mr Jinapor said the concerns required further investigation.
He renewed the Minorityâs demand for an independent audit of the evacuation exercise to determine whether the funds were properly managed and accounted for, as well as to establish the facts surrounding the disputed payments.
