It Will Be Very Hard for Tinubu to Win Overwhelmingly in Kano, Because Kano Has Kwankwaso- Ojo

Political affairs analyst Jide Ojo has said President Bola Tinubu may find it difficult to win overwhelming support in Kano State in the 2027 presidential election because of Rabiu Kwankwaso’s political influence in the state.

Ojo made this statement during an interview on Channels TV, where he discussed the possible political situation ahead of next year’s presidential election.

The analyst explained that Kano has Kwankwaso, who is the vice-presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), as well as a large Hausa-Fulani population that he believes may sympathise with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

According to Ojo, Tinubu may therefore focus on securing at least 25 per cent of the votes in states such as Kano and Katsina instead of expecting to win overwhelmingly in those areas.

He also noted that Kaduna State could be different, as Tinubu may seek stronger support there because of some of his appointments and initiatives in the region.

Ojo added that the president would also hope to gain the support of Southern Kaduna residents through efforts aimed at addressing their concerns.

The analyst further explained that, based on the Supreme Court’s decision on the 2023 presidential election, a candidate does not necessarily have to win the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to be declared president.

In his words, “it will be very hard for him to win overwhelmingly in Kano, because Kano has a Kwankwaso who is an NDC running mate.”
