Heidelberg Taxi Association calls on drivers to put road safety first during Transport Month
The Heidelberg and District Taxi Association has urged taxi operators, drivers and other road users to prioritise road safety, responsible driving and professionalism during Transport Month. In a statement released on October 22, HDTA chairperson Tshepo Molaba called on motorists to obey traffic rules, avoid speeding and distracted driving, and ensure their vehicles are roadworthy.
“Every life matters. I urge all taxi operators, drivers and other road users to obey the rules of the road, respect one another, avoid speeding and distracted driving, and ensure that every vehicle is roadworthy. As members of the transport industry, we have a shared responsibility to protect our passengers, drivers, pedestrians and communities,” he said.
Transport Month, observed in October, gives the transport industry an opportunity to renew its commitment to safer roads and reliable public transport. Molaba highlighted the important role public transport plays in connecting people to employment, education, healthcare and economic opportunities, adding that safety and professionalism should remain central to daily operations.
“Let us promote professionalism, patience, courtesy and accountability in the way we conduct our daily operations. By working together, we can build a safer and more dependable.
“Check your vehicle before departure, keep a safe following distance, observe traffic signs and signals, and never drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs. A responsible decision on the road can save a life,” he said.
