GES Sets November 16 Deadline for Payment of Outstanding Promotion Arrears

According to a report by UTV Ghana on October 27, 2026, the Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced that outstanding promotion arrears owed to affected staff are expected to be paid on November 16, 2026.

The announcement follows engagements between GES management and the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department. In a letter dated October 27, 2026, addressed to all Regional Directors and titled “2025 Promotion Placement and Arrears Payment,” management said it was working with the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department to ensure that all outstanding arrears are settled on the stated date.

The letter, signed by Prof. Smile Dzisi, Deputy Director-General (Management Services), on behalf of the Director-General, explained that the Controller and Accountant-General’s payment system was closed for the processing of end-of-October salaries, when the relevant inputs were expected to be made. The system is scheduled to reopen on October 28, 2026, to allow all inputs to be entered and to facilitate payment by the November 16 deadline.

Management also indicated that any discrepancies identified in the payment made on October 16, 2026, will be rectified accordingly. This assurance is expected to bring relief to staff who received incomplete or incorrect payments in the earlier disbursement.

GES acknowledged the delay and the inconvenience it has caused affected staff. “Management regrets the delay and the inconvenience caused,” the letter stated. Regional Directors have been asked to bring the information to the attention of all affected staff in their respective regions.

The delayed payment of promotion arrears has been a source of concern for many educators, who say that timely payment is vital to their welfare and morale. The latest communication is therefore likely to be welcomed, although staff will be watching closely to see that the November 16 timeline is met.

Affected staff are advised to stay in touch with their Regional and District Education Offices for further updates as the payment date approaches.
