Former Governor Charity Ngilu Reacts to Kalonzo’s Visit to Gachagua at Wamunyoro
Former Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu has reacted to Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s visit to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua at his Wamunyoro residence, drawing attention to renewed contact between two prominent opposition figures ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Ngilu shared a message addressing the politicians as cousins, accompanied by a photograph showing Gachagua welcoming Kalonzo. Her post read, “Hi COUSINS! Moto sana!” alongside a handshake emoji, a message that appeared to welcome their interaction without announcing any formal political agreement.
The visit comes as opposition leaders explore possible ways to cooperate ahead of the next general election. Both Kalonzo and Gachagua have positioned themselves against President William Ruto’s administration, making their engagement relevant to discussions about the opposition’s future direction.
Gachagua, who was impeached as Deputy President in October 2024, has continued building his political profile through the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP). Kalonzo, meanwhile, leads the Wiper Party and has remained an influential figure in national opposition politics.
Their meeting has raised questions about whether the two leaders could work more closely as political parties prepare for the 2027 contest. However, the visit alone does not confirm that they have agreed to form a coalition, settle on a presidential candidate or negotiate a power-sharing arrangement.
Any formal alliance would likely require further discussions about leadership, regional interests and the roles of the parties involved. Kalonzo and Gachagua each have their own political support bases, meaning that cooperation would require agreement on shared priorities and strategy.
Ngilu’s reaction added a personal touch to the meeting by highlighting the relationship between the two politicians. However, her brief message did not provide details about the discussions held at Wamunyoro or indicate whether further negotiations are planned.
The focus now remains on whether the meeting will lead to concrete political cooperation. Further statements or joint activities by the two leaders could help clarify their intentions as opposition figures consider their options ahead of the 2027 General Election.
