ECG announces 8-hour power outage in parts of Ashanti and Volta regions on Wednesday

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has announced a scheduled eight-hour power outage in selected communities in the Ashanti and Volta regions on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, to allow for infrastructure upgrades and emergency maintenance works.

According to separate notices issued on Tuesday, October 27, the outages will begin at 9:00 a.m. and end at 5:00 p.m.

In the Ashanti Region, the interruption will enable the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) to continue upgrading the transmission line connecting Anwomaso to the Ridge Bulk Supply Point.

The project involves replacing the existing 364MVA single-circuit transmission line with a modern double-circuit line with a combined capacity of 976MVA.

ECG explained that the upgrade forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen electricity infrastructure and improve the reliability of power supply in the Ashanti Region.

Communities expected to be affected include High Tension, Ankaase, Nanaho and surrounding areas.

Meanwhile, in the Volta Region, ECG will undertake emergency maintenance works aimed at improving electricity service delivery.

The exercise will also result in an eight-hour interruption in power supply to Adzido, Emancipation, parts of Keta Market and nearby communities.

The company indicated that the maintenance works are necessary to improve electricity supply and ensure more reliable service to customers.

ECG has apologised to residents, businesses and other electricity consumers who will be affected by the temporary interruptions.

The company expressed regret over the inconvenience the exercises may cause while assuring customers that the works are intended to improve power supply in the affected communities.
