Duba’s Hat-Trick Leads Amakhosi to Carling Knockout Quarter-Finals Victory Over Galaxy
October 27, 2026 sportnow Kaizer Chiefs secured their spot in the Carling Knockout Cup quarter-finals with an impressive 3-0 win over TS Galaxy at FNB Stadium on Tuesday, highlighted by a second-half hat-trick from Wandile Duba. Duba shone for Amakhosi, netting all three goals after halftime, which brings his total to six goals this season across all competitions. The 22-year-old forward has now scored three times in the current Betway Premiership season.
Chiefs began the match energetically, crafting their first significant chance in the 20th minute. Duba received a pass from Sibongiseni Mthethwa and unleashed a shot with his right foot from outside the area, but TS Galaxy’s goalkeeper, Malusi Mathebula, made the save.
Continuing to control the game, Chiefs came close again in the 35th minute. Duba threaded a through ball to Pule Mmodi, but the winger’s right-footed attempt went over the bar.
In the second half, Amakhosi kept up their momentum, and their efforts were rewarded when Duba scored the opening goal. He finished with his right foot from inside the box after a setup from Mmodi, giving the home side a well-deserved lead.
Chiefs continued to apply pressure on the Rockets and were awarded another chance in the 62nd minute when Veluyeke Zulu fouled Mduduzi Shabalala inside the box. The referee promptly pointed to the penalty spot.
Mfundo Vilakazi took the resulting penalty, but Mathebula saved the left-footed shot. Fortunately for Duba, the rebound fell directly to him, and he made no mistake from close range, scoring his second goal of the night and doubling Chiefs’ lead.
Just three minutes later, Duba completed his hat-trick, solidifying the victory. He seized on a through ball from Shabalala and found the net for his third goal of the match, concluding a remarkable individual performance.
Chiefs kept pushing for more, nearly adding to their tally in the 75th minute when Asanele Velebayi attempted a right-footed shot from outside the box, but it missed the target.
As the match wound down, Chiefs maintained their dominance, creating several more chances in their quest to extend the lead, but they couldn’t convert, finishing the match at 3-0.
This victory is a significant boost for Amakhosi, who had not won a competitive match since 6 September, when they triumphed over Siwelele in the Betway Premiership. This outcome will also instill renewed confidence in the squad ahead of Saturday’s sold-out Soweto Derby against Orlando Pirates.
Additionally, Chiefs will learn their quarter-final opponents in the Carling Knockout Cup on Wednesday, with the draw set to occur after Durban City competes against Stellenbosch FC at Chatsworth Stadium.
