DSS Arraigns Kaduna Man Over Alleged Fake Tinubu Letter to US President

According to a report by Vanguard Newspaper on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, The Department of State Services (DSS) has reportedly commenced legal proceedings against Mubarak Abdullahi, also known as Sardaunan Samari, over allegations that he circulated a forged letter purportedly written by President Bola Tinubu to the President of the United States.

Abdullahi is facing a three-count charge relating to alleged cybercrime and defamation over the circulation of the document on social media. Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President Tinubu on Information and Strategy, disclosed the development in a post on his official X account on Monday night.

Onanuga stated that security operatives arrested Abdullahi on September 28 following allegations that he shared the purported letter on his Facebook page with the caption, โ€œATIKU IS COMING.โ€

The presidential aide alleged that the suspect, who reportedly supports former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, admitted during questioning that he had circulated the document. He added that Abdullahi expressed regret over his actions, but the authorities proceeded with the case.

According to Onanuga, the suspect was initially arraigned before Chief Magistrate Court No. 10 in Kabala Doki, Kaduna, which ordered his remand at the Nigerian Correctional Centre in the state.

The DSS subsequently filed a three-count charge against him at the Federal High Court in Kaduna. The allegations concern the purported presentation of a false document as an official communication from Tinubu to the American president. However, the available report does not provide the full contents of the alleged letter or details of the individual charges.

Meanwhile, human rights activist and African Action Congress presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore criticised the arrest, accusing the Tinubu administration of using security agencies to intimidate citizens and restrict dissent.

In a statement on X, Sowore questioned the authorities’ decision to pursue the case over a social media publication and condemned the suspect’s detention.
