Depot Petrol Prices Rise Above N1,200 as Dangote Refinery Halts Loading

According to reports by BusinessDay on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, wholesale petrol prices at private depots across Nigeria have climbed above N1,200 per litre following the suspension of product loading at the Dangote Petroleum Refinery.

A survey showed depot prices in Lagos, Warri, Port Harcourt and Calabar ranging between N1,200 and N1,250 per litre. In some locations, quotes reached as high as N1,270. The development comes as the refinery’s loading halt extended into a new week, forcing marketers to rely more heavily on private depots for supply.

Marketers said the uncertainty over when the refinery will resume normal operations has led many filling stations to delay fresh purchases. Some stations have already exhausted their stock, while others are waiting to see whether prices will stabilise or rise further once Dangote resumes sales.

The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria noted that the non-availability of fuel at some stations is linked to the sharp fluctuations in depot prices. Traders also pointed to a rise in global crude prices and the refinery’s recent shift towards dollar-based transactions as additional factors putting upward pressure on costs.

The situation has raised concerns about possible increases in pump prices in the coming days if the supply disruption continues. Industry stakeholders are closely monitoring the refinery’s next move, as its operations remain critical to stabilising the downstream petroleum market.
