Bafana Legend Quinton Fortune Urges Manchester United to Sign Ballon d’Or Winner Harry Kane

South African football legend Quinton Fortune has urged Manchester United to make an ambitious move for Harry Kane, believing the newly crowned Ballon d’Or winner could provide the goalscoring quality his former club desperately needs.

Fortune, who previously played for Manchester United, has encouraged the club’s leadership to pursue the Bayern Munich striker despite his age, arguing that his proven record in front of goal makes him an ideal candidate to strengthen the team’s attack.

Speaking to BoyleSports, Fortune said United should act quickly if there is an opportunity to secure Kane’s signature.

“He’s not young, but given what he’s achieved, Man Utd should go and sign Harry Kane as soon as possible, whatever it takes. He is exactly what they need,” Fortune said. ‘don’t wait’

The former Bafana Bafana international believes Kane’s natural finishing ability would make a significant difference at Old Trafford. He argued that providing the striker with quality service would allow him to deliver the goals United need.

Kane’s credentials have been strengthened by an outstanding 2025/26 campaign. The England captain scored 73 goals for club and country, helped Bayern Munich win domestic honours and was crowned the 2026 men’s Ballon d’Or winner on October 26. He became the first Englishman to claim the award since Michael Owen in 2001. UEFA.com +1

However, signing the 33-year-old could be difficult. Kane is contracted to Bayern Munich until June 2027, and reports indicate that discussions over an extension have been progressing. Bayern would therefore have little reason to let their star striker leave without serious negotiations. FC Bayern Munich +1

Although Fortune’s recommendation has sparked discussion among supporters, there is no confirmed agreement between Manchester United and Bayern Munich over a transfer.
