Bad News to Gachagua, Kalonzo, Wamalwa, Matiangi as Influential Leader Dumps Opposition, Joins UDA.

The United Opposition has suffered a political setback following the defection of prominent leader Seth Panyako from the Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) to President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ahead of the August 10, 2027 General Election.

Panyako, who previously contested the Malava Constituency parliamentary by-election on a DAP-K ticket, has announced plans to seek the seat again in 2027, this time under the UDA party.

DAP-K, which is led by former Defence Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa, is among the political parties associated with the United Opposition.

His move to UDA signals a political realignment in Western Kenya as parties seek to strengthen their grassroots support and expand their influence ahead of the next general election.

Panyako’s departure could affect the opposition’s mobilisation efforts in the region, particularly in Malava, where he has previously sought parliamentary representation.

The defection comes as political camps intensify their preparations for the 2027 polls, with leaders shifting alliances and exploring new political platforms as they position themselves for the upcoming contest.
