Atiku Reacts As Tinubu Writes Akpabio Asking Him To Approve A Fresh $20.52 Billion Loan

The former Vice President of Nigeria, Alhaji Waziri Atiku Abubakar has reacted after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu asked the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio for the approval of a fresh loan.

The was contained in a statement that was posted on the official X handle of Phrank Shaibu, the Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication to Atiku Abubakar on Tuesday, October 27, 2026.

In the report that was published by Premium Times, Tinubu asked the Senate President to approve a loan of $20.52 billion to execute some projects.

“I want to emphasize that the projects and programmes included in the borrowing plan were selected based on thorough technical and economic evaluation, as well as their anticipated contribution to the socio-economic development of the country”.

Reacting, Atiku Abubakar stated that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu can not continue to take loans on the eve of his departure from office.

“You cannot continue taking frivolous loans on the eve of your departure from office. Let it be on record that one of the first responsibilities I will undertake as President is to scrutinize and investigate every kobo borrowed, especially loans taken in the final year of your tenure”.
