“As far as I am concerned, I don’t want anything in the name of campaign money–Bafarawa
According to a report by Daily Post, on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, former Sokoto State Governor, Attahiru Bafarawa, has declared that he would vote for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections if the President succeeds in restoring peace to the northern region of the country.
Bafarawa said his support for Tinubu would depend on the administration’s ability to address the persistent insecurity affecting Sokoto State and other parts of the North.
He maintained that restoring security should be a priority for the Federal Government, given the impact of violence on residents and their ability to carry out their daily activities.
Bafarawa made the statement during an interview with FRI, an online Hausa-language medium, where he explained the condition under which he would support Tinubu in the forthcoming presidential election.
The former governor said his decision would be based on the President’s efforts to restore normalcy to communities affected by insecurity.
He stressed that peace was the major issue influencing his position and called on the Federal Government to take the necessary steps to protect residents and enable them to resume their normal activities without fear.
His remarks focused on the need for practical measures to address the security challenges confronting Sokoto State and other northern communities.
The former governor also said time was running out for Tinubu to address the insecurity affecting the region, arguing that the President had the resources and security apparatus required to tackle the problem.
Bafarawa maintained that the Federal Government possessed the institutions and means needed to improve the security situation but emphasised the urgency of taking effective action.
He called attention to the responsibility of the President to use the available resources to protect citizens and restore confidence among residents of affected communities.
According to him, addressing insecurity should not be delayed, considering the difficulties faced by people living in the affected areas.
Bafarawa further explained that his interest was not in receiving money or other benefits in exchange for political support.
He said he was more concerned about the restoration of peace and the return of normal economic and social activities in communities affected by insecurity.
The former governor identified markets, schools and farming activities among the essential parts of daily life that had been disrupted by the security challenges.
He maintained that residents needed an environment where they could conduct business, send their children to school, cultivate their farms and earn a living without constant fear of attacks.
He urged Tinubu to make every possible effort to achieve these objectives before the 2027 elections.
The former Sokoto governor reiterated that the President’s handling of insecurity would determine whether he would receive his vote in the next general elections.
Bafarawa made it clear that his stated willingness to support Tinubu was conditional on the restoration of peace in Sokoto State and other parts of northern Nigeria.
He stressed that the government should focus on addressing the security crisis rather than relying on campaign spending to win political support.
His position placed the emphasis on the practical needs of residents, particularly the protection of lives and property and the restoration of activities that sustain communities and local economies.
Speaking during the interview with FRI, Bafarawa appealed to Tinubu to use the resources and security institutions available to his administration to restore peace across the affected areas.
He said his priority was to see communities return to normal life, with residents able to access markets, attend schools, engage in farming and pursue other livelihood activities.
The former governor reiterated that he was not seeking campaign money and would support the President if his administration addressed the insecurity affecting the region.
He said, “Look, as far as I am concerned, I don’t want anything in the name of campaign money. What I want is for President Tinubu to do everything he can to ensure peace and allow markets, schools, farming and other livelihood activities to return to our communities. I assure him that I will vote for him.”
