WHO Breaks Silence, Reveals Current Ebola Status In Nigeria After Patient’s Evacuation To Swiss

According to a report by The Vanguard on Monday, October 26, 2026, the World Health Organisation has officially broken its silence on the recent viral health scare, revealing that Nigeria currently has no Ebola case whatsoever following the swift and successful medical evacuation of the affected patient and her husband straight to Switzerland.

The cheering development was officially announced by the WHO Regional Director for Africa, Dr Mohamed Janabi, through a detailed statement published on his official X handle on Monday morning.

According to the global health chief, the high-profile medical evacuation took place earlier in the day, with both the patient and her accompanying husband confirmed to be Swiss citizens.

Dr Janabi specifically congratulated the Federal Government, dedicated frontline health workers, skilled clinicians, emergency responders, and all other strategic partners involved in the intense Ebola response, describing the milestone as a truly remarkable achievement for the country.

He emphasized that successfully managing the patient through her critical stages demonstrated Africa’s exceptional medical expertise, institutional resilience, and leadership in handling public health emergencies through effective international collaboration.

Nevertheless, the WHO regional director strongly warned that continued strict vigilance remains absolutely critical despite the medical evacuation. He urged authorities to maintain undivided attention on ongoing response measures.

Consequently, Nigeria will maintain close follow-up and monitoring of 52 active contacts, while Switzerland has fully assumed complete responsibility for the continued clinical management of the patient and the monitoring of contact number 53, her husband.

The successful stabilization of the patient by local Nigerian medical teams through the severe acute phase of the illness has drawn widespread public commendation, marking a historic triumph for the nation’s robust healthcare system and infectious disease response network.
