What Kalonzo and Gachagua Discussed at the Wamunyoro Meeting

Wiper Patriotic Front (WPF) leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua have committed to working together to defeat President William Ruto in the August 10, 2027, General Election.

The two opposition leaders reached the agreement during a meeting at Gachagua’s Wamunyoro home in Nyeri County on Monday, October 26, where they agreed to unite their political bases and bring other like-minded parties under one banner.

According to a statement issued after the meeting, the leaders committed to making the opposition’s WANTAM campaign a reality, with plans to settle on a single presidential candidate to challenge Ruto.

WPF Senator Kiio Wambua described the meeting as “a cordial and frank discussion on the future of Kenya,” adding that the commitment to achieving WANTAM was clear.

DCP Secretary General-designate and Laikipia Senator John Methu said the meeting was part of efforts to strengthen cooperation between the two parties and build a broader opposition coalition.

Methu dismissed suggestions that Kalonzo needed a formal invitation to visit Gachagua, saying the two leaders are cousins who can visit each other without prior arrangements.

He said the parties would also engage other political formations willing to support their shared political agenda.

“We don’t want partners who say, ‘If it’s not him, it’s Ruto.’ That isn’t WANTAM,” Methu said.
