“Welcome to Wamunyoro, My Cousin” Kalonzo Receives a Warm Welcome as He Arrives at Gachagua’s Home

Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has arrived at Rigathi Gachagua’s Wamunyoro residence in Nyeri County for a meeting that could shape the opposition’s political plans ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Gachagua welcomed Kalonzo with a warm message, describing him as a cousin and calling for unity among leaders.

“Welcome to Wamunyoro, my cousin Kalonzo Musyoka. Unity of a purpose is vital!” Gachagua said.

The meeting comes at a time when opposition leaders are holding consultations on how to unite and select a presidential candidate to challenge President William Ruto in the next election.

Kalonzo had confirmed his intention to visit Gachagua after the former deputy president previously visited his home in Tseikuru, Kitui County.

The Wiper leader has maintained that their relationship remains strong despite questions about political differences within the opposition. He has also called on leaders seeking the presidency to engage one another instead of allowing disagreements to weaken their camp.

Gachagua, who leads the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), has recently held talks with Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and leaders associated with the Linda Mwananchi movement.

Those engagements have increased speculation about possible political partnerships ahead of the 2027 polls. DCP deputy leader Cleophas Malala has also publicly expressed support for Sifuna as a possible opposition presidential candidate, although the opposition has yet to settle the wider question of its flagbearer.

Kalonzo, who is also a presidential hopeful, has insisted that leaders must consult before making decisions about the race.

The Wamunyoro meeting is therefore attracting attention because both politicians command support in different regions and could play important roles in any opposition coalition.

However, the visit alone does not confirm that the two leaders have agreed on a presidential candidate or a final coalition arrangement.

Their discussions are expected to draw interest from supporters watching the opposition’s next move as the country approaches the 2027 election.

Will Kalonzo and Gachagua find common ground and help unite the opposition, or will the question of who should lead the coalition remain a major challenge?
