TOR Secures 5 Million Barrels of Crude Oil as Kombat Announces 30% Salary Increase After 10 Years

The Managing Director of the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR), Edmond Kombat, has announced a 30 per cent salary increase for employees of the state-owned facility, following a decade without a pay adjustment.

Kombat disclosed this at the Government Accountability Series on Monday, October 26, 2026, explaining that the increment followed negotiations between management and the relevant labour unions to address longstanding concerns about staff remuneration and improve employee welfare.

He said the salary adjustment formed part of broader measures introduced by the current management to resolve workers’ grievances and improve conditions at the refinery.

According to him, management had also reviewed and addressed more than 300 petitions submitted by staff, resulting in an increase of 10 per cent in the refinery’s overall wage bill.

Kombat explained that despite the additional financial commitment arising from the petitions, management had been able to accommodate the cost while implementing the salary increase.

Beyond the improvements in staff welfare, the TOR managing director disclosed that the refinery had secured a consistent supply of crude oil to sustain its operations.

He said the improved supply situation had resolved previous challenges associated with crude oil availability, allowing the facility to operate with a more reliable supply of feedstock.

Kombat revealed that TOR had received five million barrels of crude oil, with additional shipments scheduled monthly over the following six months.

He said the arrangements were expected to support the refinery’s continued operations by ensuring a more predictable supply of raw materials.

“TOR has also maintained a steady supply of crude oil for the refinery’s operations. There is no longer a lack of crude, as a result, the plant is working. We have a consistent supply. We have received 5 million barrels and we have barrels lined up every month for the next 6 months,” he stated.
