Tinubu’s Kaduna Campaign Sparks Controversy as Opposition Questions His Health and Popularity

According to a report by The Daily Post on Monday, October 26, 2026, the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign flag-off in Kaduna State has triggered reactions from opposition figures, who questioned President Bola Tinubu’s health and popularity ahead of the 2027 general election.

The campaign was held on Saturday at Ranchers Bees Stadium, but photographs and videos from the event sparked debate over the President’s physical condition and the number of supporters present.

Controversy followed a viral video allegedly showing First Lady Remi Tinubu placing what appeared to be pills into her husband’s mouth during the event. Some viewers also claimed the President appeared to have difficulty moving one of his hands.

Paul Ibe, media aide to African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, urged Tinubu to suspend his campaign and seek medical attention.

Ibe argued that the President’s family should prioritise his well-being, insisting that governing the country required a leader in good health.

African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore also expressed concern, alleging that Tinubu was facing health challenges. He maintained that Nigeria needed a leader whose capacity to govern was dependable.

However, these allegations have not been independently established.

Responding to the criticism, APC founding member and former Voice of Nigeria Director-General Osita Okechukwu defended the President.

Okechukwu said discussions about Tinubu’s health were inappropriate without medical evidence, adding that the President had declared himself fit and was seeking another term.

He urged opposition parties to focus on policies and issues affecting Nigerians rather than speculate about the President’s condition.

The opposition also questioned the rally’s attendance, with political commentator Isaac Fayose claiming that the party failed to fill the stadium despite allegedly bringing supporters from different states. Ibe similarly accused the organisers of using camera angles that concealed the crowd size.

Okechukwu rejected the claims, describing the rally as successful and insisting that the stadium was filled, with some supporters reportedly unable to enter.

The controversy adds another dimension to the political contest ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
