Tinubu Sends Message to Brazil President Lula on Re-election
President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on his re-election for a fourth term, expressing his readiness to strengthen diplomatic and economic relations between Nigeria and Brazil.
Tinubu conveyed his congratulations in a statement issued by the presidency on Monday.
“I congratulate my friend, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva of Brazil, on his re-election for a record fourth term,” the Nigerian president said.
He noted that Lula’s renewed mandate presented an opportunity for both countries to deepen their relationship, which dates back to 1961.
According to Tinubu, Nigeria and Brazil, as two leading countries of the Global South, have important roles to play in promoting economic integration and advancing their shared interests amid changes in the international order.
“Your renewed mandate offers an opportunity to strengthen the longstanding friendship between Nigeria and Brazil, dating back to 1961,” he said.
The Nigerian leader expressed his administration’s commitment to expanding cooperation with Brazil across several sectors, including trade, investment, agriculture, food security, energy, oil and gas, manufacturing, science and technology, education, aviation and cultural exchange.
He said closer cooperation in these areas would provide opportunities for both countries to pursue common development goals and strengthen their economic ties.
Tinubu also reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to multilateral cooperation with Brazil, particularly in advancing shared priorities across Africa, South America and other parts of the Global South.
“I affirm Nigeria’s continued commitment to working with Brazil to strengthen multilateral cooperation and advance shared priorities in Africa, South America, and across the Global South,” he stated.
“On behalf of the people of Nigeria, I wish you a successful new term in office,” Tinubu added.
Tinubu’s message comes as the Nigerian president continues to seek another term in office ahead of the 2027 general elections.
At the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign flag-off rally at Ranchers Bees Stadium, also known as Kaduna Township Stadium, on Saturday, Tinubu blamed his political opponents, including former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, for the hunger and poverty affecting Nigerians.
“I have an argument. I hear my opponent talking about hunger, poverty. Who created it? They did! They created the hunger, they created the poverty. We are trying to eradicate it,” the president said.
Tinubu also defended his administration’s record on salary payments and praised state governors for their performance, insisting that his government was making progress.
“We pay salaries regularly. Our governors are working. I am proud of them. They are developing,” he said.
The president urged Nigerians to support his re-election bid, saying he wanted to sustain his promises of prosperity, continuity, progress and development.
At the same rally, Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani accused opposition parties of using artificial intelligence in their campaigns and urged APC supporters to remain vigilant.
Sani also praised Tinubu’s administration for its infrastructure projects, including road construction and other development initiatives, while expressing confidence that voters in Northern Nigeria would support the president in 2027.
Similarly, the Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, Senator Abdul’aziz Yari, said the party would campaign on the achievements of Tinubu’s administration in infrastructure, healthcare, education and human capital development.
“We Nigerians, at the head of this campaign, are going to campaign with our records. Our records are there. The infrastructure is there. What you did in health, education and human capital development is there,” Yari said.
