“Spintex Knights’ financial struggles in Libya sad”- Ghana Basketball President
President of the Ghana Basketball Federation (GBF), Alex Kukula, has described Spintex Knights’ inability to fly back to Ghana from Libya due to financial difficulties as a “sad” situation.
Speaking to Citi Sports, Kukula commented on the club’s struggle to raise funds to cover flight tickets and visa-on-arrival charges totalling approximately $33,000.
Spintex Knights represented Ghana in the Basketball Africa League (BAL) Division West group phase, winning all three games to top Group B and qualify for the Elite 16 stage.
The next phase of the competition is scheduled for November 10 to 15 in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, but the Ghanaian side faces financial uncertainty ahead of the tournament. Kukula described the situation as sad, with the club needing financial support to settle its outstanding costs and return home.
“For me this is very sad. I am a bit close to the team owner and I see the trouble he goes through just to keep up that team and for them to go and bring glory to us and then get stuck like that, it’s a bit sad.”
