Serwaa Amihere Advises Young Women to Stop Chasing Fake Bags, Wigs and Expensive Shoes

Ghanaian lawyer and media personality Serwaa Amihere has advised young women to avoid rushing into buying counterfeit designer bags, wigs, shoes and other expensive items in an attempt to impress others.

Speaking to her young mentees during the IGNITE Woman programme, Serwaa encouraged them to prioritise personal growth, hard work and financial stability instead of allowing pressure from society to dictate their spending habits.

According to her, young women should understand that building a successful life takes time and requires patience, discipline and determination. She urged them not to feel compelled to acquire expensive products simply because their friends or other people appear to be living luxurious lifestyles.

Serwaa explained that there was nothing wrong with aspiring to own original designer products, but young women should focus on improving their financial circumstances before making such purchases.

She encouraged them to work towards becoming financially independent so that, when they can comfortably afford the items they desire, they can purchase authentic products without placing unnecessary pressure on themselves.

Her message comes amid growing conversations about lifestyle expectations, social media influence and the pressure many young people face to appear wealthy even when their financial situations may not support such lifestyles.

Designer bags, wigs, shoes and other fashion accessories have become popular among young people, with some feeling the need to keep up with trends and portray an image of success.

However, constantly trying to match other people’s lifestyles can lead to unnecessary spending, financial difficulties and the neglect of more important priorities, such as education, business development, savings and career advancement.

Serwaa’s advice encourages young women to recognise that their worth is not determined by the brands they wear or the prices of the items they own.

Instead, she wants them to concentrate on developing their skills, building sustainable careers and creating opportunities that will improve their lives in the long term.

Her message is a reminder that success should not be measured by outward appearances alone. With patience, hard work and sound financial decisions, young women can gradually achieve their ambitions without succumbing to pressure to impress others.

The central lesson is simple: build your life first, and let luxury purchases come when you can genuinely afford them.
