Sakaja Gives Babu Owino Six Hours to Delete Eastleigh Posts or Face Court
Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has given Embakasi East MP Babu Owino six hours to delete his social media posts about the Eastleigh building collapse or face legal action, escalating a bitter dispute over who approved the deadly construction.
Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has issued a six-hour ultimatum to Embakasi East MP Babu Owino: delete your posts about the Eastleigh building collapse or face the full weight of the law.
Through his lawyers, the governor demanded the removal of posts the MP published on X and Facebook from around 1:27pm on Sunday, October 25, warning that failure to comply will result in court action and legal costs.
At the centre of the dispute are Babu’s claims that a Nairobi county approval existed for the collapsed Eastleigh building, and that KSh 120 million changed hands as a bribe in connection with the project.
The governor’s lawyers argue the posts wrongly tie Sakaja to the approval of the building, which collapsed on Friday, October 23, leaving many feared dead and missing.
Babu has not backed down. The MP maintains that county records show an approval existed, and has accused the governor of lying to Kenyans over the tragedy.
For his part, Sakaja has released police reports from July along with documents he says disprove the approval claim. The governor has already stated publicly that while a change-of-use approval was granted in 2024, the building’s construction plans were never approved by the county.
The confrontation turns a building tragedy into a full political war. Both men are major players in Nairobi politics, and with the 2027 race already casting its shadow, neither can afford to blink first.
It also raises the stakes on the questions Kenyans are already asking about the collapse: who approved what, who paid whom, and who will answer for the lives lost in the rubble.
If the posts stay up past the deadline, Sakaja’s team will have to follow through in court, a move that would put county records, payment claims and the governor’s own signature under oath-tested scrutiny.
Either way, the clock Babu’s posts are now racing against is ticking.
Do you think Sakaja will sue, or is this political theater ahead of 2027?
