Peter Obi Reacts After Rilwan Olawale Was Allegedly Arrested for Campaigning for Him
The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has strongly condemned the alleged arrest and continuous harassment of his supporters across the country.
In a statement released on his official X handle on Monday, Obi specifically called for the immediate release of Rilwan Olawale, a young campaigner and mobiliser.
According to reports, operatives who identified themselves as DSS officers stormed Olawale’s residence in Lagos around 1:00 a.m. on Sunday, October 25, 2026, and took him away. Since then, his family and supporters say they have not heard from him.Supporters claim the young man’s only “offence” was openly campaigning for Peter Obi in Lagos and waving the NDC flag.
Obi described the development as disturbing and unacceptable.
He said:“CIVILITY IS NOT WEAKNESS. ENOUGH OF THE HARASSMENT OF MY SUPPORTERS. RELEASE RILWAN OLAWALE NOW.
“The continued intimidation and harassment of my supporters across the country, the latest being the case of Rilwan Olawale, is disturbing and unacceptable.President Bola Tinubu has remained a huge beneficiary of our democracy and should not brazenly be destroying it by encouraging and facilitating violence”.
The former Anambra State governor emphasised that his campaign remains peaceful and issue-driven, built on competence, accountability, justice, and compassion. He warned that nobody should mistake their civility for weakness or their restraint for fear.
“We will not be intimidated into silence, nor will we abandon Nigerians who believe in a New Nigeria that is possible and will be OK,” Obi added.
