MultiChoice Ghana announces reduction in new DStv subscription packages
The announcement was made at a joint press conference held on Monday, October 26, by the Ministry of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovation and MultiChoice Ghana, the pay-TV operator.
Speaking on the development, the Country CEO of MultiChoice Ghana, Alex Okyere, indicated that both parties arrived at the decision to make legitimate television services more accessible while discouraging the use of pirated decoders.
He explained that the four packages feature different channel selections and content offerings, with the entry-level option priced at GH¢50 per month and the most expensive package costing GH¢570.
3. Sports Pack – GH¢250 per month The Sports Pack is priced at GH¢250 monthly and is targeted at football fans. It offers football coverage alongside the channels available on the Starter and Select packages.
4. Ultimate Pack – GH¢570 per month The Ultimate Pack costs GH¢570 per month and combines entertainment content with premium sports coverage, making it the highest-priced option among the four packages.
On his part, the Minister for Communications, Digital Technology and Innovation, Sam Nartey George, stressed that the announced prices were fixed rather than promotional offers.
He, however, noted that the planned implementation was subject to the necessary clearance following the Attorney-General’s advice.
On piracy, the minister said the government would continue working with the Cyber Security Authority (CSA), the National Communications Authority (NCA), National Security, Customs, and other relevant agencies to tackle the illegal distribution and use of television services.
He explained that enforcement against piracy must be accompanied by affordable legal alternatives for consumers.
“If you’re going to make it a high-risk enterprise for people to use pirated boxes, then you need to make it a low-entry access for everybody,” he said.
