“Let’s Meet in Court”: Babu Owino Refuses to Apologise After Sakaja’s 6-Hour Ultimatum
Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has stood his ground in his dispute with Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, declaring that he will not apologise as tensions rise over the recent building collapse in Eastleigh.
The disagreement has attracted public attention as questions emerge about the approvals issued for the building that collapsed on Friday, October 23, 2026.
On Sunday, October 25, Sakaja, through his lawyers, reportedly gave Owino six hours to remove social media posts linking the county administration to the disputed building approval. The lawyers warned that failure to comply could lead to legal action.
Owino responded by defending his statements and challenging the governor to take the matter to court.
“Let’s meet in court, Sakaja. I will not apologise to a man who has destroyed the lives of Nairobians,” the MP declared.
The dispute centres on whether the collapsed building had the necessary county approvals before construction. Owino claims that a document he shared shows that the development received approval on February 13, 2024.
However, Sakaja has disputed that account, maintaining that permission to change the property’s use was different from approval to construct the proposed high-rise building. He has also challenged the authenticity or interpretation of the document circulating online.
Owino has further alleged that KSh120 million was paid as a bribe in connection with the development. That claim has not been independently verified and should not be treated as an established fact.
The collapse has renewed concerns about building safety, construction standards and the enforcement of regulations in Nairobi. Rescue teams have been working at the site as authorities seek to establish what happened.
The legal threat now adds another dimension to the controversy, with the two leaders offering conflicting accounts of the building’s approval history.
As investigations continue, attention remains on the evidence available, the responsibilities of the relevant authorities and whether the dispute will proceed to court.
Will the confrontation between Babu Owino and Governor Sakaja end in court, or will the two leaders find another way to resolve their differences?
