LaLiga: Why Real Madrid beat Barcelona 2-1 – Mourinho

According to a report from Daily Post Nigeria, on Monday October 26, 2024, José Mourinho praised Real Madrid’s character and composure after they secured a 2–1 victory over Barcelona on Sunday.

The result brought Madrid to within three points of the La Liga leaders and gave the team an important boost in the title race.

Kylian Mbappé scored both of Madrid’s goals, while Raphinha found the net for Barcelona to level the match temporarily. Mourinho was particularly pleased with how his players responded to Barcelona’s aggressive high press, which made it difficult to build attacks from the back.

“My boys were amazing tonight,” Mourinho said. “They were very brave in build-up against a team that presses high and aggressively. Even when Barcelona equalised, we didn’t panic or lose focus.”

The manager also noted that Madrid could have made the closing stages more comfortable. By failing to add a second goal after taking the lead, his side allowed Barcelona to remain within reach and put pressure on the result.

Despite that concern, Mourinho felt his players showed the discipline required to see out a demanding match. Madrid will now turn their attention to their next fixtures, beginning with an away league game against Racing Santander. They will then travel to Greece to face AEK Athens in the Champions League.
