Lagos Urges Consumers to Report Online Sellers Delivering Wrong Items

The Lagos State Government has urged residents to report online vendors who deliver goods different from what customers ordered, warning against unfair business practices in electronic commerce.

According to a report by Punch News on Monday, October 26, 2026. The Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency (LASCOPA) appealed in a consumer awareness message shared on its official X account on Monday.

The agency advised consumers to take action when products purchased online do not match their descriptions, differ from the items ordered, or fall below the quality promised by sellers.

LASCOPA said customers should not remain silent when vendors fail to deliver what was agreed upon during a transaction.

“Goods or products you order online should be delivered as promised,” the agency stated.

It urged residents to speak up and seek redress whenever they receive goods that do not meet the conditions advertised by sellers.

“Speak up and take action,” the agency advised.

LASCOPA also encouraged consumers who experience such problems to submit formal complaints to the agency for investigation and appropriate action.

“Register your complaint with the Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency (LASCOPA) against unfair business practices,” the statement added.

To make it easier for residents to report cases, the agency provided a toll-free helpline, 080 0005 2726, and an email address, lasgcopa@gmail.com, through which affected consumers can contact it.

The agency reaffirmed its commitment to protecting consumers’ rights in the state, stressing that buyers deserve to receive the products and services they pay for.

“In Lagos State, consumers are kings,” LASCOPA declared.

Online shopping has become a common way for people to purchase clothing, electronics, household items, and other products. However, customers may face difficulties when delivered goods differ from advertised descriptions or fail to meet the quality stated by sellers.

Consumers are advised to retain payment receipts, order confirmations, product descriptions and conversations with vendors when seeking redress. Such records can help explain the nature of a complaint and support efforts to resolve disputes.

The agency’s advisory encourages residents to use the available complaint channels rather than accept unsatisfactory deliveries without taking action.

LASCOPA did not provide details of any specific online vendor or enforcement action in the awareness message. Its appeal focused on encouraging consumers to report unfair business practices and seek assistance when sellers fail to meet their obligations.

The agency urged residents to remain alert when shopping online and to report cases where their consumer rights have been violated.
