KDF Truck Ferrying Officers Overturns Along Nairobi-Mombasa Highway,Two Killed and Several Injured

Two people died and five others were injured on Sunday, October 25, 2026, after a military truck lost control and overturned at Samburu Trading Centre along the busy Mombasa–Nairobi Highway in Kwale County.

The crash involved a military FTS lorry and a Mercedes-Benz Actros truck.

Police said the military vehicle was travelling from Mombasa towards Nairobi with nine people aboard when one of its tyres burst at about 12.10pm.

The tyre failure reportedly caused the driver to lose control. The military truck veered from its path and crashed into the Actros truck, which had been parked off the road on the right side while facing Mombasa.

The impact caused the military lorry to overturn before landing on its left side on two roadside kiosks. Two people were trapped beneath the vehicle and sustained fatal injuries. They were pronounced dead at the scene.

Five other people including; included three military personnel and two civilians, were injured during the incident. They were taken for medical attention as police officers and responders arrived at the scene.

Officers documented the accident and began investigations to establish the circumstances of the crash. The bodies of the two victims were later moved to Kinango Hospital mortuary, where they were to remain pending post-mortem examinations.

The damaged military lorry and the Actros truck were towed to Samburu Police Station for inspection.

The accident came amid concern over road safety along the highway, where fatal crashes have continued to claim lives.

Earlier, 23 people were killed in a separate accident at Kanga near Mtito Andei.

Transport Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir said the government had started operations aimed at addressing the rising road carnage and improving safety for motorists and road users.
