Kalonzo Rejected Offer to Be Sifuna’s Running Mate, UDA MP Alleges After Today’s Wamunyoro Meeting
Mathira MP Eric Wamumbi has alleged that Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka rejected an offer to become Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna’s running mate in 2027 in exchange for a 30 per cent share of government.
Wamumbi made the claims on Monday evening following Kalonzo’s meeting with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua at his Wamunyoro residence in Nyeri County on Monday, October 26.
In a Facebook post, the UDA MP claimed an unnamed MP who attended the meeting had informed him about the alleged offer and Kalonzo’s response. However, Wamumbi did not identify the legislator he said shared the information with him.
According to the first-term lawmaker, Kalonzo was offered the deputy presidential position alongside Sifuna and a 30 per cent stake in government, but rejected the proposal.
He further alleged that Kalonzo insisted on being the presidential candidate, warning that he would walk away from the alliance if the other leaders did not accept his demand.
“He has said he is either the candidate or he break the cousins alliance,” the MP alleged.
Wamumbi also claimed Kalonzo told Gachagua’s camp that future talks should take place at his own residence.
“Kalonzo has told them if they want to talk to him again,” he added.
The claims have not been independently verified, and neither Kalonzo nor Gachagua had publicly confirmed the alleged offer in reports available at publication.
Wamumbi claimed that Jubilee Party leader Fred Matiang’i is now the only formidable challenger to Ruto, with Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro as his alleged running mate.
Kalonzo visited Gachagua on Monday, October 26, accompanied by political allies.
The meeting came six days after Gachagua hosted Sifuna and leaders allied to the Linda Mwananchi movement at the same residence.
The engagements come as opposition leaders explore how to unite behind a candidate to challenge President William Ruto in the 2027 General Election.
