I Was Shooting In Asaba. I Fell Into A Gutter, and That Same Night My Children Had An Accident—Akposheri
Nollywood veteran Ambassador Tony Akposheri has recounted how he fell into a gutter in Asaba, Delta State, on the same day his children were involved in an accident, describing the experience as an incident whose significance he only understood later.
Akposheri shared the experience in a video posted on the Gbam Interview YouTube channel on Sunday, October 25, 2026.
The actor explained that he was in Asaba shooting a film with a director identified as China when the incident occurred. According to him, after filming ended, the director invited him to have pepper soup, but he decided to stop at a supermarket to purchase some toiletries.
Recounting the incident, Akposheri said he fell into a gutter while crossing the road, adding that an elderly woman came to his assistance.
“I was shooting in Asaba with a director called China. So we finished shooting. China said, ‘Uncle, come, let’s go and drink pepper soup.’ So I came down, and as he was going to branch, I said I saw a supermarket. I said let me go buy my toiletries,” he said.
He continued: “As I was crossing, I didn’t know how I fell into a gutter with my phone. It was one elderly woman who even came to help me out of the gutter.”
Akposheri said the incident took on a different meaning later that night when he returned to his hotel and received a phone call from his wife informing him that their children had been involved in an accident.
“Do you know that when I got back to the hotel that same night, I got a phone call from my wife that your children just had an accident,” he recounted.
Reflecting on the coincidence, the actor said he began thinking about the saying that blood is thicker than water.
He added that someone later suggested that his fall might have prevented him from experiencing something worse, although he did not explain further how he interpreted the suggestion.
Beyond recounting the circumstances surrounding the incident, Akposheri disclosed the financial burden he faced following his children’s accident.
According to the veteran actor, both children were taken to the hospital for treatment, requiring him to spend more than ₦20 million to cover their medical expenses.
He further revealed that he had to sell his land to raise money for their treatment, highlighting the financial sacrifices he made to ensure they received medical care.
Despite the difficulties, Akposheri said his children survived the accident and are still receiving treatment.
