This comes as the Kano State chapter of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has said it will approach a court if the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) fails to resolve its complaint over the exclusion of its governorship candidate, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, from the list of candidates for the 2027 election.

The state chairman of the party, Husseini Mairiga, disclosed this in an interview with LEADERSHIP yesterday, saying the party had yet to receive any feedback from INEC following the expiration of the October 24 deadline for complaints over the exclusion of candidates.

Pantami and Gwarzo’s names were missing from INEC’s final list of governorship candidates. Besides Pantami and Gwarzo, the names of the PDP governorship candidate in Ogun, Oladipupo Adebutu; the Oyo NNPP candidate, Adebiyi Adedapo; and the SDP governorship candidates in Oyo and Benue states did not make the commission’s final list.

Meanwhile, Pantami said his camp had investigated the alleged moves against his political movement and would soon disclose details of the suspected conspiracies and the individuals allegedly involved. In a Hausa video shared online, the former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy expressed confidence that the alleged efforts to undermine his ambition would not succeed, insisting that no human action could overturn what God had destined.

“Very soon, we will expose and provide sufficient details about all the acts of hypocrisy and the conspiracies that have been plotted, including those responsible for them,” he said.

Although Pantami did not name any individual in the portions of the video, he alleged that substantial resources and time had been deployed to undermine his political movement.

He, however, urged his supporters not to be discouraged by criticism and mockery, encouraging them to remain patient and committed despite the challenges confronting his political journey.

The PDP candidate also thanked supporters for their prayers, solidarity and mobilisation, saying their continued support had strengthened his resolve.

According to him, supporters had been praying for his well-being in mosques and churches, reciting the Qur’an and offering voluntary prayers amid the controversy surrounding his candidacy.

Pantami urged them to remain steadfast, arguing that even prophets had faced ridicule during their lifetimes.

LEADERSHIP understands that the allegations come amid growing uncertainty over Pantami’s political future following his omission, alongside the PDP, from the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) final list of candidates for the 2027 Gombe State governorship election.

The development has triggered debate over the validity of his candidacy, particularly the legal requirements governing political party membership and the nomination of candidates.

Meanwhile, in an article titled “Farewell, Professor Isa Ali Pantami,” Ibrahim Sani Shawai, spokesperson for the APC governorship candidate, Dr Jamilu Isiaku Gwamna, argued that the controversy could hinge on whether Pantami’s name appeared in the PDP membership register submitted to INEC within the legally prescribed timeframe.

Shawai noted that although Pantami reportedly won the party’s September 29 rerun governorship primary, his challengers contend that the exercise could not remedy an alleged defect involving the membership register.

“The same electoral legislation Pantami invoked when he believed the APC nomination process was working against him is now at the centre of the legal challenge to his PDP candidacy,” Shawai wrote.

Gwarzo Exclusion: Kano NDC Threatens To Sue INEC

The NDC in Kano State said it will approach a court if INEC fails to resolve its complaint over the exclusion of its governorship candidate, Gwarzo, from the list of candidates for the 2027 election.

The state chairman of the party, Husseini Mairiga, in an interview with LEADERSHIP, said the party had yet to receive any feedback from INEC following the expiration of the October 24 deadline for complaints over the exclusion of candidates.

Mairiga said he would seek an update on the matter from the commission during a visit to Abuja on Monday, adding that the party was prepared to pursue legal action if its complaint remained unresolved.

“Up to now, we have not heard anything from INEC. I even asked my leaders at the national level, but they have not received any information either,” he said.

He added, “Tomorrow, Monday, I will be in Abuja for the inauguration of the council campaign presidential campaign. From there, I will try to see what is going on and get an update.”

Asked about the party’s next line of action if INEC failed to respond, the chairman said the NDC would not abandon its demand for the inclusion of Gwarzo on the list.

“If INEC does not give us any update, we are going to court. We cannot just leave it like that and go,” Mairiga said.

The development follows the party’s earlier appeal to INEC over the exclusion of Gwarzo from the list of governorship candidates for the 2027 general election in Kano State.

Mairiga had said the complaint was submitted through the party’s national leadership after INEC directed affected political parties to report complaints over the exclusion of their candidates by October 24.

The chairman maintained that Gwarzo was a duly registered member of the party and expressed confidence that a review of the party’s membership records would establish his eligibility to contest the election.
