From GH¢875 to GH¢563, and Now GH¢250 — Sam George Welcomes DStv Price Cuts

The minister highlighted the changes in subscription pricing, noting that some packages which previously cost about GH¢875 had been reduced to approximately GH¢563 before the introduction of the new sports offering at GH¢250.

“From about GH¢875 to GH¢563, and now GH¢250,” Sam George stated while welcoming the latest adjustments to DStv’s pricing structure.

He indicated that some customers could save more than GH¢500 each month compared with what they previously paid for higher-priced subscriptions, depending on their existing package and the terms of the new offering.

The introduction of the GH¢250 package comes amid ongoing concerns about the affordability of pay-TV services in Ghana, where subscription charges have remained an important consideration for households seeking access to sports, entertainment and other television programmes.

For many football enthusiasts, the cost of maintaining a subscription has been a major factor in deciding whether to continue using the service, particularly when they primarily watch football rather than the wider range of channels included in more expensive packages.

The new sports option is intended to provide an alternative for such viewers by allowing them to access DStv’s football content without necessarily paying for a higher-priced subscription that includes other programming.

Sam George’s endorsement reflects the government’s interest in improving affordability and ensuring that consumers have access to services at prices they consider reasonable.

The changes also place renewed attention on the relationship between subscription prices, consumer expectations and competition within Ghana’s pay-TV market, as customers increasingly seek packages that match their viewing preferences and financial circumstances.

Customers are therefore encouraged to confirm the package details and the content available before making changes to their existing subscriptions.
