Fikile Mbalula Steps in as Malema-MySol Feud Escalates – ‘Let’s Settle This Amicably’
African National Congress (ANC) secretary-general Fikile Mbalula has called for an amicable resolution to the growing public dispute between Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema and prominent South African mining entrepreneur Solomon “MySol” Madibela, describing the businessman as a solid South African entrepreneur.
Mbalula indicated that he was prepared to reach out to Malema to understand the issues behind the confrontation, signalling a willingness to encourage dialogue rather than allow the disagreement to escalate.
“MySol is a solid SA entrepreneur. Whatever the fight is about, I will reach out to Julius to understand. Let’s settle this amicably,” Mbalula said.
His remarks come amid growing tensions between Malema and Madibela following the EFF leader’s sharp criticism of the businessman during a party rally in Letlhabile, Madibeng, in the North West on Saturday, 24 October 2026.
Malema used the rally to challenge Madibela over mining wealth and the distribution of economic opportunities, arguing that the country’s mineral resources should benefit ordinary South Africans and local communities rather than a select group of wealthy individuals.
The EFF leader also issued pointed remarks directed at Madibela, questioning his influence and warning against the concentration of mining wealth in private hands.
Madibela subsequently responded to Malema through WhatsApp status updates that circulated widely, pushing the disagreement further into the public spotlight.
The confrontation has attracted attention because Madibela is a prominent businessman whose career in the mining industry began in an entry-level position before he established his own business interests.
In previous interviews, the entrepreneur has spoken about working his way up in the mining sector before building his company, MySol Holdings and Logistics.
Mbalula’s intervention introduces the prospect of dialogue between the two sides at a time when political parties are intensifying their campaigns ahead of South Africa’s local government elections scheduled for 4 November 2026.
The ANC secretary-general’s comments suggest that he wants to understand the origins of the disagreement before taking any position on the issues involved.
Whether Malema and Madibela will be willing to engage in efforts to resolve their differences remains to be seen.
For now, Mbalula’s appeal places reconciliation at the centre of the debate, with the potential for discussions to shift the focus from public exchanges to constructive engagement over entrepreneurship, mining opportunities and economic empowerment.
