DSS Arraigns Atiku Supporter For Circulating A Fake Letter Of President Tinubu — Presidency

In a post on his X handle on Monday, October 26, 2026, Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Information and Strategy, has announced that the Department of State Services (DSS) has arraigned supporter of Atiku Abubakar over the circulation of a purportedly fake letter attributed to the Nigerian president.

According to the presidential aide, Abdullahi was arrested on September 28 for allegedly sharing the document on his Facebook page with the caption, “ATIKU IS COMING.”

“DSS arraigns Atiku supporter for circulating a fake letter of President Tinubu. An avowed supporter of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar now faces trial in Kaduna for circulating a document purportedly written by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the President of the United States of America,” he wrote.

The document was purportedly written by Tinubu and addressed to the President of the United States of America. Onanuga described it as fake and accused the suspect of circulating it online. “The suspect, Mubarak ABDULLAHI (aka Sardaunan Samari), was arrested on 28 September for sharing the fake document on his Facebook page with the caption “ATIKU IS COMING,”” he added.

The presidential aide said Abdullahi admitted to investigators that he shared the document and apologised for his actions. However, he added that the apology did not prevent the authorities from proceeding with the case. “Mubarak admitted to investigators that he shared the fake document and apologised for his actions. The contrition was not enough,” Onanuga wrote.

He disclosed that the DSS arraigned Abdullahi before Chief Magistrate Court No. 10 in Kabala Doki, Kaduna State, which ordered that he be remanded at the Nigerian Correctional Centre in Kaduna. “The DSS arraigned him before Chief Magistrate Court No. 10, Kabala Doki, Kaduna, which ordered his remand at the Nigerian Correctional Centre, Kaduna,” he added.

Onanuga further stated that the security agency had filed a three-count charge bordering on cybercrime and defamation against the suspect at the Federal High Court in Kaduna. “The agency has filed a three-count charge bordering on cybercrime and defamation against him at the Federal High Court, Kaduna. A date for his formal arraignment is yet to be fixed,” he stated.

Onanuga used the development to highlight what he described as the DSS’s ability to identify and trace individuals involved in spreading misleading information online. “The DSS continues to show that it has the capacity to trace those engaged in circulating misleading information in cyberspace,” he stated.
