Defend Your Country Before It’s Too Late – Lawyer Xolani Zuma Issues Threat Warning To South Africa
Representing the civil movement March and March, prominent activist and defense attorney Xolani Zuma has made a public appeal to the people of South Africa, urging them to stand together and protect their homeland from foreigners he says are a danger to local populations.
During an address that was recorded during the continuing anti-immigration protests in KwaZulu-Natal, Zuma justified the campaign as a vital tool for national defense that would protect local livelihoods, public safety, and compliance with the law. Public demonstrations, hospital gatekeeping actions, and business inspections have been spearheaded by March and March, a registered non-profit organization founded by former broadcaster Jacinta Ngobese-Zuma, throughout Durban and the neighboring townships.
During an address to supporters in the heart of Durban, Zuma called on the public to band together in the face of rising tensions over illegal immigration, illicit trade, and the security threats posed by criminal networks operating in residential areas. The leaders of the civic movement have stated that the goals of their grassroots activities are to make landlords and employers pay for illegal immigrants’ housing costs and to force the government to deport those who refuse to comply with immigration laws.
Reports of violent confrontations, disruptions to businesses, and vigilante-style inspections targeting foreign residents have put the movement’s operations under intense scrutiny from law enforcement agencies, human rights monitors, and civil rights organizations. Cities like eThekwini have been the site of systematic intimidation, property destruction, and forced displacement of non-South African residents, according to rights groups’ documentation of these incidents.
March and March-led protests across the eThekwini metro are still under the watchful eye of police oversight authorities and local SAPS station commanders. Officials from the police force have made it clear that they will intervene decisively to stop xenophobic riots and keep the peace in communities, even though they claim that peaceful protests are protected by the constitution.
