AKA and Tibz were shot dead outside Wish restaurant on the busy Florida Road in Durban on 10 February 2023.

KZN Organised Crime Unit’s Sergeant Rajen Sanders, who specialises in downloading CCTV footage from crime scenes, took the witness stand to testify about multiple videos he collected from different locations, including Wish.

Sanders’ testimony, led by senior State Prosecutor Advocate Lawrence Gcaba, focused on two vehicles: a grey VW Polo allegedly used as a spotter car, and a white Mercedes-Benz used as the getaway vehicle.

Evidence also centred on the arrival of two men who gunned down AKA and Tibz outside the restaurant.

Sanders played multiple videos from different roads showing the white Mercedes fleeing the scene at high speed.

In one video, the Mercedes hits a speed hump, and its left headlight goes off. Other footage shows it still speeding with only one light on.

According to Sanders, the Mercedes drove from Wish to Manor Gardens, west of Durban. He also produced pictures of the vehicle in Manor Gardens shortly after the shooting.

The Mercedes was later recovered at Cato Crest on 6 March 2023. It matched all the features seen in the videos, including the broken left headlight, black roof, and black tinted windows.

Since the trial started on 5 October, accused number three, Siyanda Myeza, has been identified as someone who was found in possession of one of the two firearms used during the murders.

Accused number four, Mziwethemba Gwabeni, has been identified as someone who allegedly tailed AKA from the airport to a hotel.

Accused number five, Lindokuhle Ndimande, has been identified as the spotter inside Wish restaurant.

Mzansi is now waiting to learn the roles of the other accused, especially the identities of the two shooters.

The trial continues on Tuesday, 27 November, when the defence will cross-examine Sergeant Rajen Sanders.
