“Baba Oyoyo” And Other Big Moments From APC’s Kaduna Campaign Flag-Off

The All Progressives Congress, APC, presidential campaign flag-off in Kaduna on Saturday brought together President Bola Tinubu, Vice-President Kashim Shettima, governors, ministers, lawmakers and party supporters as the ruling party began its mobilisation for the 2027 presidential election.

The venue was the Ranchers Bees Stadium ( Kaduna Township Stadium).

The rally featured enthusiastic receptions for the president, appeals for Northern support, presentations of government projects and a direct call for Nigerians to renew Tinubu’s mandate.

Here are eight moments that defined the October 24, 2026, event.

APC supporters began arriving at the Kaduna Township Stadium early, dressed in party colours and carrying banners and portraits of Tinubu. Music, campaign songs and chants accompanied the gathering, while a solidarity march through Kaduna metropolis on Friday preceded the flag-off.

The mobilisation provided the opening spectacle of an event intended to set the tone for the ruling party’s campaign.

…Tinubu’s arrival sparks chants

Tinubu’s arrival at the stadium alongside Shettima, Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani and other dignitaries drew chants of “Baba Oyoyo” from supporters.

The reception became one of the rally’s defining moments as party members welcomed the president, who is seeking another four-year term.

The presence of APC governors, ministers, lawmakers and other party chieftains demonstrated the national leadership’s participation in the campaign launch.Campaign Director-General, Abdulaziz Yari, and other speakers called for support for Tinubu, presenting the rally as the beginning of a broader effort to mobilise voters across the country.

…Uba Sani highlights security and infrastructure

The host governor used his address to draw attention to infrastructure projects and security interventions in Kaduna State.

He highlighted road projects, including the Kaduna–Birnin Gwari road and the Abuja–Kaduna–Kano Expressway, as well as the proposed Kaduna metropolitan rail project.

Sani also said more than 300 schools and over 150 primary healthcare centres previously closed because of insecurity had reopened.

His remarks linked the presidential campaign to issues affecting residents of the state, particularly security, transportation, education and healthcare.

…Tinubu makes direct appeal for a second term

The president thanked Kaduna residents for their support in the 2023 election and urged them to vote for him again in January 2027.

Tinubu defended his administration’s economic policies, acknowledging the difficulties confronting Nigerians while arguing that his government’s decisions were intended to address longstanding economic problems.

He also called on supporters to mobilise votes for APC candidates at all levels, extending the appeal beyond the presidential contest.

Vice-President Shettima defended the administration’s relationship with Northern Nigeria, drawing attention to federal projects, educational interventions and cooperation with state governments.

His address underscored the importance of Northern support to the APC’s re-election campaign, with Kaduna serving as the launch venue for the party’s presidential mobilisation.

Yari described Kaduna’s selection as significant because of its political importance in the North-West.

He urged traditional rulers, Islamic scholars and community leaders to mobilise support for Tinubu, presenting regional backing as a major component of the campaign strategy.

The appeal highlighted the party’s intention to engage influential community figures as it begins the process of securing support ahead of the election.

An unscripted moment occurred when the microphone of the Minister of Works, David Umahi, was taken away while he was speaking at the rally.

A video of the incident circulated afterwards, showing the minister being interrupted as he spoke about having Tinubu officially commission a road project.

The episode provided a moment of drama during the otherwise formal proceedings, which featured speeches by party leaders and appeals for support for the president.

The Kaduna flag-off marked the start of the APC’s presidential campaign, bringing together its national leadership to defend the administration’s record, seek support in the North and mobilise voters for the 2027 election.
