Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have uncovered four illegal lithium processing plants operating in Ogere, Ogun State, arresting 15 suspects in connection with illicit solid mineral refining. Among those taken into custody during the operation were 14 Chinese nationals and one Nigerian.

The raid was conducted on Friday, October 23, by officers attached to the EFCC’s Lagos Zonal Directorate 2, following weeks of covert surveillance and actionable intelligence detailing illegal mining activities in the region.

Items seized at the processing sites included several bags of unprocessed lithium rocks, a trailer truck used for haulage, 18 mobile phones, four laptop computers, two decoders, and a television remote control.

Confirming the arrest in an official statement on Monday, EFCC Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, stated that thorough investigations are currently underway.

Oyewale added that all 15 suspects will be formally charged in court as soon as the preliminary investigation is concluded.
