What Average Mpesa Agents in Kenya Earn Per Month When You Deposit or Withdraw Money

Running an M-Pesa shop used to feel like printing money. Today, the average agent walks home with only KSh 9,353 every month.

That figure is the lowest in years. The number of M-Pesa agents has exploded past 330,000. More shops mean the same commission pie is sliced into thinner pieces.

The commission rates themselves have not vanished. Agents still earn on every transaction:

Deposits: from KSh 4 (for 50–100) up to KSh 190 (for 50,000–70,000)

Withdrawals: from KSh 5 up to KSh 200 on the biggest cash-outs.

Location decides everything. A quiet shop in a crowded estate can barely cover rent and float. But an agent near a busy market, matatu stage, university gate or densely populated estate can process hundreds of transactions daily. Those ones still pocket between KSh 20,000 and KSh 50,000 (sometimes more) before expenses.

Float is the other silent killer. Run out of cash or e-float during peak hours and customers simply walk next door. Successful agents keep strong float and often add airtime sales to boost income.

The hard truth in 2026 is clear: M-Pesa agency is no longer an easy side hustle. Competition is ruthless. Yet the same commission table that leaves most agents with under 10k still rewards the smart ones who choose the right spot and stay consistent.
