Toluwanisings’ father disputes singer’s age, reveals burial disagreement
The father of Nigerian gospel singer Olayemi Bolaji, popularly known as Toluwanisings, has disputed reports about his son’s age while revealing a disagreement over where he should be buried.
Speaking in an interview, the bereaved father said the singer was born in July 1992 and was 34 when he died. He also revealed that his son was born with the Muslim name Sodiq before later embracing Christianity.
“My son is 34 years, not 44. People are just making different assumptions. I, the father, know when I gave birth to him,” he stated.
The father said Toluwanisings lost his mother six months after his birth in 1992. He explained that following her death, the singer was raised by members of his maternal family.
He also recalled how he learnt of his son’s death on October 14, saying he was attending a ceremony when he received a distress call asking him to return home. Shortly afterwards, he began seeing photographs of Toluwanisings online accompanied by RIP messages.
The singer’s father said he later contacted his son’s wife to discuss burial arrangements. According to him, she suggested that Toluwanisings be buried in a cemetery or church, but he proposed that the singer be buried inside the house he built.
He said his son’s wife rejected the idea because she would not be comfortable living in a house where her husband was buried.
The father then suggested that the body be taken to their village and buried beside his late mother.
“If they won’t allow him to be buried inside his house, they should bring him down to the village where his mother is and bury him beside her,” he explained.
Toluwanisings died in Ibadan on October 14, less than 24 hours after ministering at Bidemi Olaoba’s In His Presence worship programme. His personal assistant, Babadunni Gbolabo, said the singer was taken to several hospitals after he suddenly slumped, but the family has not disclosed an official cause of death.
The family has since announced a Night of Tributes and Service of Songs for Tuesday, October 27, at Hall of Grace, Jogor Centre, Ibadan, at 3pm.
