Cape Town police are hunting for gunmen who killed five people and wounded three others in a mass shooting in Lavender Hill, near Steenberg.

The victims, a woman and four men, were shot dead at a house Saturday evening in what police suspect was a gang-related attack.

Police say the gunmen stormed a house while family and friends were having a braai and opened fire.

Provincial Police Commissioner Sizakhele Dyantyi visited the area on Sunday and vowed to bring the perpetrators to book.

“We are investigating the motive, and we need to pursue all possibilities about what might have been the reason why the people were shot. We are still gathering information on the ground.”

Dyantyi said police will remain on high alert as investigations continue and efforts to track down the suspects intensify.
