Olympics: Chelle keeping tabs on Liverpool players ahead of U23 Afcon qualifiers
According to a report from Daily Post Nigeria, on Sunday October 25, 2024, Olympic Eagles coach Eric Chelle is reportedly monitoring Liverpool defenders Wellity Lucky and Noah Adekoya as he prepares for the upcoming U23 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
According to Score Nigeria, both academy players have caught the coach’s attention as potential additions to Nigeria’s squad.
Adekoya has reportedly indicated his willingness to represent the country after being contacted by the Nigeria Football Federation.
Fulham player Chibuzo Nwoko also expressed interest and has since made his international debut in Nigeria’s recent friendly against Russia. Adekoya, however, is yet to appear for the national team.
Adekoya joined Liverpool from Burnley in January 2026. He has scored once in four appearances for the club’s Premier League 2 side.
Lucky, who was born in Zaragoza, is eligible to represent Nigeria through his family. He could also play for Spain or England.
The defender has featured for England at U15 and U16 level and has received an invitation to train with Spain’s U17 team.
Liverpool view Lucky as a promising prospect. He has been named in seven first-team matchday squads and made his senior debut against Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup in October 2025.
Nigeria are scheduled to face the Democratic Republic of Congo in the U23 AFCON qualifiers in November 2026.
