Nigerian-Rooted Midfielder Wins Second League Title Ahead of Arsenal January Move

According to a report by London Evening Standard on Sunday October 25, 2026, Arsenal’s incoming January signing Victor Ozhianvuna has celebrated his second consecutive League of Ireland title with Shamrock Rovers ahead of his anticipated move to north London in January 2027.

The 17-year-old, who has Nigerian heritage through his father and Russian ancestry through his mother, is expected to join the Gunners after turning 18.

Shamrock Rovers secured the championship on Friday after beating Sligo Rovers 4-0. Their victory, combined with Bohemians’ 1-0 defeat to Shelbourne, confirmed their status as league champions for the second successive season.

Ozhianvuna has played an important role in the club’s campaign despite spending the final months on the sidelines. He made 13 league appearances in 2025 before featuring 18 times during the current season.

The teenager enjoyed an impressive spell in early May, recording assists in consecutive matches against Drogheda United and Galway United. His performances attracted attention, with manager Stephen Bradley even suggesting that a senior international call-up could be within reach.

However, a back injury subsequently disrupted his progress and has kept him out of action for approximately five months. Bradley explained in September that the problem was connected to growth-related issues affecting the player’s back and hips.

Arsenal have reportedly been working with Shamrock Rovers to manage his recovery carefully. Both clubs are prioritising his long-term development rather than rushing him back into competitive action.

The Gunners agreed a deal for Ozhianvuna in advance, allowing him to remain with the Irish club until he becomes eligible to complete the transfer. Reports indicate that he will sign a four-and-a-half-year contract running until 2031.

Shamrock Rovers are expected to receive approximately €2 million (£1.68 million), with additional earnings potentially available through a sell-on arrangement.

Ozhianvuna’s latest title triumph adds another achievement to his growing career before his anticipated Arsenal arrival. The Nigerian-rooted youngster will hope to recover fully and begin his next chapter in English football when the January transfer window opens.
