NDC polls: Accept results and unite to strengthen party – Asiedu Nketiah

The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has called on candidates who contested the party’s constituency-level executive elections to accept the results in good faith and work together to strengthen the party.

He said maintaining unity after the internal elections was essential to consolidating the party’s structures and preparing for future political contests.

Mr Asiedu Nketiah made the appeal on Sunday, October 25, 2026, during the Ketu North Constituency Delegates Conference at Weta in the Volta Region.

Explaining his decision to stay away from constituency elections across the country, the NDC chairman said he wanted to maintain neutrality and avoid any perception that he was supporting particular candidates.

He noted that his position required him to bring members together after the elections, irrespective of who emerged victorious. According to him, openly favouring some aspirants could create divisions and undermine his efforts to reconcile members.

Mr Asiedu Nketiah stressed that all party members remained important to the NDC, regardless of their individual ambitions or electoral fortunes.

He also urged unsuccessful candidates not to regard their defeat as a rejection by the party. He explained that competition for internal positions meant some aspirants would inevitably lose, since only one person could occupy a particular office at a time.

He encouraged those who were unsuccessful to remain active and committed, noting that other opportunities to contribute to the party’s development could arise in the future.

The chairman further appealed to delegates to support candidates they considered suitable for the various positions and urged all contestants to respect the outcome of the polls.

He emphasised that the success of the electoral exercise should not be judged solely by the identities of the winners but also by the willingness of members to cooperate afterwards.

Mr Asiedu Nketiah expressed optimism that the NDC could emerge stronger from the constituency elections if successful candidates and their opponents set aside their differences and work towards a common goal.

His appeal comes as the party seeks to maintain cohesion within its grassroots structures ahead of the 2028 general elections.
