March and March Leader Accuses SAPS Of Ignoring Her Cases After Viral Facebook Comment

March and March leader Jacinta Ngobese-Zuma has accused the South African Police Service (SAPS) of failing to act on five cases she says she has opened, after a Facebook comment addressed to her was described online as a threat to bomb South Africa.

Ngobese-Zuma made the claim on X on Saturday. She wrote that none of her five cases had ever been attended to, yet police had made a spectacle of someone who said they would shut down a football game, while a bomb threat was apparently not good enough. She added that this is why people do not trust the government.

Her post quoted PSAFLIVE, which said an illegal foreigner had publicly threatened to bomb South Africa. It carried a screenshot of a Facebook comment addressed to her that includes the words “no 1 bombed SA” and says she is “gonna cost for it”. PSAFLIVE’s description of the commenter has not been verified, and this report does not name him. The comment’s meaning has not been established, and no police statement on it had been found.

Her reference to a football game appears to point to 10 October, when police arrested a man who had allegedly threatened that he and his followers would shut down Moses Mabhida Stadium to stop the MTN8 final between Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns. Two men were granted R1 000 bail each on 12 October on charges that include inciting public violence. TimesLIVE reported that March and March founder Andile Zuma represented them in court and that the organisation paid their bail.

Ngobese-Zuma has opened other cases recently. On 6 October, she laid a complaint at Durban Central Police Station over a Facebook post that allegedly called for her to be raped and killed. The ANC and the South African Human Rights Commission condemned the post. She also said online death threats kept her from a community meeting in Phoenix last weekend, which the man she named denies.

March and March has led protests against illegal immigration this year. Ngobese-Zuma herself was named in a public violence case opened in January, which she has contested.

No response from SAPS or the government to her latest post had been found at the time of writing.
