Kwame A-Plus Dares Gomoa Central Rivals, Says He Will Give Up Seat if They Secure 5% of Votes

Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as Kwame A-Plus, has issued a bold challenge to anyone who intends to contest him in the constituency, declaring that he would concede his parliamentary seat if an opponent manages to secure even five per cent of the votes.

A-Plus’s statement, “If anyone contests me in Gomoa Central and gets even 5% of the votes, I will concede my parliamentary seat to them,” signals his confidence in his political standing and support among constituents.

The declaration is likely to generate discussion about the MP’s popularity and the level of support he believes he commands in Gomoa Central, in Ghana’s Central Region. However, the statement should be understood as a political challenge rather than a formal electoral or legal commitment unless further details confirm otherwise.

A-Plus entered Parliament after contesting the December 2024 general election as an independent candidate. He defeated the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Naana Eyiah Quansah, who was then the incumbent MP and Deputy Minister for the Interior, as well as the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate.

Figures reported by the Ghana News Agency showed that A-Plus secured 14,244 votes, while Quansah received 11,637 and the NDC candidate polled 10,112. Graphic Online reported a slightly different total for A-Plus, putting his votes at 14,277.

His victory ended the NPP’s hold on the constituency and marked his first entry into Parliament.

The latest remark places renewed attention on the political contest in Gomoa Central and raises questions about how the MP’s opponents may respond. Any assessment of his electoral strength, however, will ultimately depend on the votes cast in a future election.
