Kiambu Businesswoman Breaks Down as Customers Allegedly Boycott Her Hotel Over Tutam Remarks

A businesswoman in Kiambu County has broken down in tears after claiming that customers stopped visiting her hotel following her public declaration of political support for President William Ruto’s Tutam camp.

In a video circulating on social media, the distressed woman is seen walking around her establishment, showing empty seats and tables filled with unsold food. She expressed frustration over the situation, saying her political remarks had cost her customers and left her with food that risked going to waste.

The woman, whose name was not disclosed in the report, questioned whether Kenyans were still free to express their political opinions without facing consequences.

She complained that her declaration of Tutam had prompted customers to reject her food, leaving her with several unsold chapatis as the evening progressed.

“In this Kenya we have not freedom of speech anymore; me saying tutam has made my customers to reject my food. Now where will I take all this food?” she lamented in the video, as she displayed the chapatis that had not been sold.

The businesswoman maintained that she had not intended to offend anyone through her political expression, describing her remarks as a personal opinion.

As she became increasingly concerned about the possibility of losing the food, she appealed to members of the public to visit her hotel and eat for free rather than allow the food to go to waste.

“I did not mean to offend anyone; please come and eat them for free because they will spoil, Pease forgive me, Ruto I am supporting you openly, and now they do this to me,” she said.

She also stepped outside the premises to show the seemingly empty surroundings, expressing distress over the absence of customers.

The video sparked mixed reactions online, with some social media users expressing little sympathy for the businesswoman while others suggested that the incident had given them an idea about how to respond to people whose political views they opposed.

One user, Brayo, suggested that the situation had inspired him to reconsider whom he would do business with.

“Inakaa ni content unatengeneza but umetupea idea on how we should actually be doing things henceforth…..mm kwanzia sai mtu wa Tutam akuna biashara nafanya nayye,” the commenter wrote.

Another user, identified as We live once, suggested that the unsold food could be taken to affordable housing construction workers.

Duny Kipro also commented on the situation, joking that employees who supported the Tutam camp had been dismissed and should seek employment through the government.

Meanwhile, Thee Juma suggested that some of the chapatis could be taken to State House or workers involved in affordable housing projects.

The incident has drawn attention to the potential tension between political expression and business relationships, particularly when customers disagree with the views expressed by business owners.

However, the alleged boycott remains the businesswoman’s account of what happened. The report does not independently establish why customers stayed away or confirm the extent of the reported business losses.
