KCSE 2026 Candidates Enter Week Two as KNEC Lays Down Strict Rules Ahead of Main Written Papers

Thousands of candidates sitting the 2026 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education examinations have entered the second week of the national exam period. The Kenya National Examinations Council has maintained strict rules on punctuality and conduct.

The examinations began on Monday October 19 2026 with oral and practical assessments. They covered subjects such as French and German and Arabic and Kenyan Sign Language and Music.

The next phase includes Home Science practicals and assessments in technical subjects. The main written papers will then begin on Wednesday October 28 2026.

Candidates must go through security searches outside the examination rooms. They must also be seated at least 15 minutes before each paper starts.

Morning papers begin at 8:00 am while afternoon sessions start at 2:00 pm. Latecomers must give the supervisor a satisfactory explanation.

Anyone arriving more than 30 minutes after a paper has started will only be allowed to sit it under exceptional circumstances.

KNEC has banned mobile phones and other electronic devices from examination rooms. Programmable calculators and books and notes are also prohibited. Handbags and briefcases and backpacks are not allowed inside the centres.

Answers must be written in blue or black ink. Pencils are reserved for drawing diagrams. Where calculators are permitted only the non-programmable type may be used.

Candidates must confirm that they have received the correct question paper. They should also report any missing materials to the supervisor immediately.

Learners must stop writing when told to do so by the supervisor. Those allowed to leave early cannot carry out question papers or answer booklets.

Candidates have been advised to remain disciplined and avoid any conduct that could lead to the cancellation of their results.
