CHIEFS BOMBSHELL! KAIZER JUNIOR BREAKS SILENCE After CAF Confederation Cup Collapse

JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA — 25 OCTOBER 2026

Kaizer Chiefs sporting director Kaizer Motaung Junior has delivered a strong message of support for head coach Fernando Da Cruz following the club’s disappointing elimination from the CAF Confederation Cup, insisting that the technical team continues to enjoy the full confidence of the club’s leadership.

Chiefs’ continental ambitions came to an end on Friday after they suffered a penalty shootout defeat against Red Arrows, leaving supporters frustrated and raising fresh questions about the team’s progress under Da Cruz.

However, despite the growing pressure surrounding the French tactician, Motaung Junior has made it clear that the club will not make decisions based solely on the disappointment of a single result.

In a statement released after the match, the sporting director reaffirmed the club’s commitment to the coach and his technical team.

“We would like to reaffirm our full support for, and confidence in, the Head Coach and the entire technical team,” Motaung Junior said, emphasising that they continue to enjoy the trust of the club’s leadership.

His remarks come at a difficult moment for the Soweto giants, who had reportedly gone four consecutive matches without a victory before their encounter with Red Arrows. The disappointing run has intensified scrutiny of Da Cruz, with questions being raised about the team’s performances and the direction of the club’s sporting project.

Nevertheless, Motaung Junior defended the work being done behind the scenes, praising the technical team’s professionalism, work ethic and commitment to improving the squad.

He also highlighted the fighting spirit displayed by the players against Red Arrows, despite the result and the injuries affecting the team.

According to the sporting director, the club believes that progress should be measured over time rather than determined by the outcome of one match or competition.

He stressed that important decisions must be guided by careful assessment, stability and long-term planning instead of emotional reactions following disappointing performances.

The statement represents a significant show of confidence in Da Cruz at a time when sections of the Chiefs faithful are demanding better results and a return to the club’s trophy-winning traditions.

Motaung Junior also acknowledged the frustration experienced by supporters, while reminding them that the standards expected at Naturena remain unchanged.

He called for unity between the club, players, technical staff and supporters, expressing confidence that the foundations currently being established can eventually produce the success expected by the Amakhosi faithful.

For now, Da Cruz appears to have the backing of the Chiefs hierarchy. However, the pressure to deliver improved performances and positive results will remain intense.

The coming matches could prove crucial in determining whether the club’s confidence in its coach translates into progress on the pitch.
